Proper Care of Glass Shower Doors
If you just had glass shower doors installed in your bathroom, chances are you enjoy having an enclosure that no longer allows water to spray out onto the floors as shower curtains often do. To keep your investment looking its best for as long as possible, steps will need to be taken in its maintenance. Here are some tips you can use to keep your new glass shower doors looking great for years to come.
Keep Your Supplies in a Handy Location
It is best to keep your cleaning supplies right in your shower so you will be more inclined to do a cleaning session after you bathe. It is important to take the time to do a quick scrub down of the interiors of the doors after the water is used. Purchase a plastic caddy to suction to the interior shower wall or hang from the shower head. Inside you will need a small shower squeegee, a spare washcloth, and a glass cleaner made especially for shower doors.
Take Time to Remove Moisture Daily
After you shower, immediately clean the interior glass doors using the supplies you have close by. First, open the door slightly to allow any trapped steam to escape into the room. Next, spray down the interior glass wall with your cleaning agent. Use your squeegee to remove the cleaner in a side-to-side motion starting at the top of the glass and working your way to the bottom. Your washcloth can be held under the rubber edge of the squeegee to sop up any moisture. Make sure to swap the washcloth with a clean one daily so you don't use one that already has debris in the fibers.
Do a Deep-Cleaning Process Every Few Weeks
It is a good idea to do a deeper cleaning of your glass shower doors to remove any hard water deposits that may have become present. This can be done with white distilled vinegar. Place a coffee mug of vinegar in your microwave to heat it for a few seconds before placing it in a spray bottle. Fill the bottle the rest of the way with water and shake well to mix.
Spray your glass doors and use a non-abrasive sponge to remove any debris or hardened water from the surface. Use a piece of microfiber cloth to remove the vinegar solution. Follow with a routine cleaning with your glass cleaner for the best results. If you want to shine your doors further, consider applying a bit of car wax to a piece of cloth and apply in a circular motion to the glass. This will fill in any porous areas of the glass, leaving it looking crystal clear as a result.
